The city is larger…. I turned to look at the pointy grey towers staring down at me. I will find out where these large giants come from. I walk and walk until I reach the city's heart where the magnificent skyscrapers sat straight up into the sky.
Staring at the top of a tower that is disappearing and reappearing from the clouds, I tilted my head, confused about how the tower grew to be taller than anything else.
Without much care, I meandered through the city at my own pace for two nights. Sometimes I ran with all my speed, curving through street crowds, imagining an angry person chasing me. Sometimes I barked at other dogs, teasing them for still being on a leash. Sometimes I ran up to people to let them pet me until they gave me a little treat. Sometimes I laid down on the lawns of random parks to stare at the migrating clouds. But other times, I felt lonely and worried about my survival on the streets with no stable friends to guide and reassure me.
Tonight, I knew by instinct I needed to determine the rest of my fate.
I considered my basic needs for food and shelter, as well as my chances of survival in the streets. Wanting to live and thrive and be able to tell my story to others, I declared to the rustling trees, to the lurking nocturnal creatures, and to the shimmering stars,
“My journey outside alone is going to end!” Shaking my fur, puffing up my chest, wagging my tail, I began to run down the empty streets, straight towards the indistinguishable scent of the pet store, back to where I was nurtured, back to where the world was waiting to be explored.
Back to where everything started. And there, I would wait for my next adventure.
